Roast Leg O' Lamb.

Now that Rie and I are level 60 in WoW, we've been able to do raids. Just tonight we were in Molten Core. While there, I discovered something about Blizzard's coding.

I think somewhere buried in the vast spaghetti that is the code for WoW, there must be the following subroutine:

void Firewalker.CreateThreatList(cRaid RaidParty) {
int i;
    for i = 0; i < RaidParty.count; i++ {
        if strcomp(RaidParty(i).PlayerName, "Legolamb") = TRUE then {
            do {
                //cast fireblossom at player for between 3000 and 3500 fire damage)
                cast Fireblossom(RaidParty(i), rand() * 500 + 3000, FIRE_DAMAGE);
            }
            while(RaidParty(i).PlayerHealth > 0;
        }
    }
    ...
}

Essentially, this bit of code will browse through the members of the raid and, if it finds me, it will cast the Fireblossom spell until I am dead. It will not necessarily target anyone else. I do not necessarily have to be attacking the Firewalker. If I'm there, it decides that I must die. Maybe it thinks I'm a frickin' Stoneclaw totem.

Now, I'm not basing this on just a couple isolated incident of getting incinerated by Fireblossom. It's the fact that it did it EIGHT FREAKING TIMES IN A ROW, regardless of what I was doing, while no one else in the entire raid seemed to be having problems of repeat fireblossom gankings. I think the guild should give me double DKP for having to put up with that crap.

And not a single epic dropped the entire time. What a gyp.

  2. lrn2frnoob :P

    James, my cow-orker friend, just started in MC on Sunday as well. (read 50/50 green/blue gear and only 25fr) Nearly every flamewalker would drop him like a wet towel.

    He was a little less than impressed since we seemingly cruised though the instance on easy mode. I guess experience, skill and a raid group of 95+% purple gear helps too.

    Now that you guys are both 60 and doing raids, what progress has your guild made?

  3. Fire resistance was my first guess to why I was dying so often, and while that is a factor I'm sure, it doesn't completely explain it.

    With buffs, my resistance was 67. With buffs, Rie's was 52. I would actually resist from 20-30% of the damage sometimes, however that didn't seem to matter. I would be hardly attacking at all and get spammed by Fireblossom (in one instance, I was hit three times within 5 seconds and all I did was shoot it twice from my maximum range). Rie would be bombarding it with arrows and might get hit once in the entire fight.

    Also, my gear is two greens, one purple, and the rest blue. Rie's is about the same.

    Thus, my conclusion that Blizzard hates me.

    Oh, our guild. We don't have enough 60's to raid yet, so we team up with others. Our current alliance is with Thorium Knights. They're pretty decent, but don't seem to have that much experience (I don't think they've taken down Rag yet).

    The other odd thing is the other night I wasn't having this problem at all. The only time the Firewalker took me down was when we wiped.

  4. Yeah, you need to up your unbuffed FR way above that. The typical goal that non-tanks need to achieve is 150FR unbuffed. You can wear more, but at some point your FR gear is more of a burden taking away from other stats, I would recomend shooting for around 200 unbuffed, and then try replacing different items with damage gear based on the situation.

    As a rogue, you need to get your FR up pretty high to avoid getting "a bit singed" and you need decent healers assigned to healing the DPS' classes.

    You would be amazed of what a rogue is capable of enduring. Last week, one of our rogues successfully MT'd Onyxia, without needing backup tanks. (He actually didn't even wear his FR gear for the fight too) Of course it was the healers that did the impressive job of keeping him alive for the whole fight. I think the numbers had him somewhere in the neighborhood of being over-healed by 200,000 or so.

    Do you have a CTprofile? Maybe I can suggest some easy FR items to get.

    As for Rie's hunter, Black Dragonscale items are the best for FR. I would recomend getting a libram of resiliance on the BDS leggings, and one on a decent helm. (I got lucky and got a Helm of Narv as a random world drop; I added the libram to it, it was good for quite a while.)

    Oh, and "woot!" I turned 100% purple yesterday. Check me out! No, seriously, check me out!
