This is one of the more interesting Wrong E-mails I've received.

**Sounds like an Imperial code**
Apparently, our family dog is communicating from beyond the grave!
And selling... antiqued mahogany winged armchairs?
I always knew Theo had excellent taste.
ReplyDelete"sounds like an Imperial code"
ReplyDeleteI know that's from an X-Wing cutscene I've watched a thousand times, but I don't remember which one.
Dave: It's the one where the Rebels replace the Imperial comm sats with their own, so they can monitor Imperial transmissions. The cutscene shows the two Rebels aboard the listening post as they intercept the plans for the Death Star (Lord knows why the Empire was transmitting them over a galactic network).
ReplyDeleteWe used to mock the cutscene for the unnaturally long pauses between each line.
Rebel 1: "We've just intercepted a transmission!"
Rebel 2: "Sounds like an Imperial code."
Rebel 1: "That's right! I'm decoding it now!"
(Image of Death Star appears on the screen)
Rebel 1: "It looks like plans for an Imperial battle station!"
Rebel 2: "Relay it with the next high-security transmission."
I believe the cutscene took place after mission three or four in the third tour of duty.
Whoa... I caught the reference, but I didn't remember that much detail... :O
ReplyDeleteBut it WAS so much cooler with DIGITAL AUDIO over the simple midi music.
Oh the days of dreaming of acurate wave table synthisis!
(You could get a Sound Blaster AWE32 and put 32MB of RAM in it! Can you believe that RAM ON A SOUND CARD!! So cool... I only had 8MB on my motherboard!)
...all covered with dog hair, no doubt...and bitten by Buster.
ReplyDelete-Dad
I still have the original box sitting on a shelf... it is just a matter of having a 3.5" floppy drive.
ReplyDeleteooohhhh 1.44Mb High Density Disks!
Oh yeah, I do remember that now, they were on an asteroid. I remember the pauses, probably while the game was loading the next audio file or something. We would make fun of it a lot, that must be why I recognized the lines so quickly.
ReplyDeleteJeff, I just happen to have in my possession a computer with an AWE32 soundcard (with 32MB on-board memory), and a true DOS mode. Are you jealous?
Also, have you tried DOSBox?
yes.
ReplyDeletei think i have a machine running Windows ME... Liz uses it as the "step" for a step-arobics video she likes.
Whoever said Windows ME was a poor platfrom.
LOL!
ReplyDeleteI remember playing X-Wing (or was it X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter?). I'd fly (i.e. use the joystick), while one of the boys would be my R2 unit (i.e. do everything else using the keyboard).
ReplyDeleteI still have a fond memory of blasting a TIE Fighter to smitherines while simultaneously rubbing one of my eyes to get an itch out. I basically blew the fighter up with only one eye open.
One of the boys commented after the debris field had dissipated something about the TIE pilot probably not being happy if he'd known he'd just been destroyed by someone flying with one eye open.
Ah, memories. =)

I remember that too! That was so much fun! Can you believe my first introduction to the internet was at their house? I remember their dad loading a picture on a website and it took FOREVER to load, but it was really cool. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm especially fond of dueling in DOOM. I had every available weapon at my disposal, while the boys only had the chain saw. They'd even stand still for a minute to give me a chance to get it together, but nope..... I still got hacked in two every time. lol It would have me in tears from laughing so hard. lol
Good times. :)
