A look at some of The Creative Murloc's costumes from the last year.


So the Murloc's cosplay year began in April, with Ye Olde Renaissance Faire. Not being pregnant this year, she wore the same (rented) costume that she wore two years previous. Let's compare her pre-and post-pregnancy:

She certainly fills out the dress a bit more. Not that I'm complaining, mind.

The bodice must be tighter the second time around.

As usual, she got her hair done.

The girl on the Turtle mount won first place in the costume contest. I would like to point out that it was a fully functioning turtle mount, that would move, swing its legs, and open its mouth.

Verily, the greatest picture of all BlizzCon.

The first person to guess the true identity of biker-Lich King will win the great honor of being the last person slaughtered when his army of leather-clad ghouls overruns the world.

Blizzcon 2008: The Making of a Costume.

I didn't take that many pictures at Blizzcon this year, and those I did take didn't come out well. You'll probably be able to find better pictures on the official website.

So instead, I'm posting "behind the scenes" photos of the making of the Murloc's costume: the Sorceress from Diablo II.

She put an incredible amount of time and effort into this costume and I think it shows. She actually took a leatherworking class to be able to make the bracers, greaves, belt, neckpiece, and hairclip. The staff was handmade and painted entirely by her (except for the runes, which were etched in by a friend).

I'm not doing a big write up this time. Just a few thoughts.

New expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King announced for WoW. Played a short demo at The Con. No, the Death Knight was not playable.

Didn't get to play StarCraft II, like I wanted.

They had a panel on the WarCraft movie, with Blizzard and Legendary Pictures (Batman Begins, 300). It sounds good. Legendary doesn't want to make a video game movie; they want to make an epic (think Gladiator or Braveheart) movie that uses the WarCraft lore. (You can read the entire backstory to WarCraft here. It really is interesting.) The producer indicated that they were likely to spend at least $100m on it.

We also watched the StarCraft, WarCraft III, and World of Warcraft 5v5 arena finals. First two were so-so, but the WoW arena finals were very exciting. They were commentated by Ben "Leeroy Jenkins" Schulz, who was actually a very good commentator. He knew the strategies and tactics of 5v5 arena fights and knew what to look for and what to point out to the audience.
